About the Partnership

Science

Working together, Newcastle Academic Health Partners works with industry partners in a range of activities across:

  • research
  • business
  • knowledge exchange

We support the economic development of Newcastle and the wider North East by collaborating with public, private and voluntary organisations to:

  • generate jobs
  • create and support businesses
  • improve the overall health and wealth of the population

We will focus on delivering scientific advances that improve physical and mental health in age-related chronic diseases such as dementia and musculoskeletal disease. It will also seek to improve understanding and treatment of:

  • cancer
  • diseases that affect the brain
  • diseases affecting children

Newcastle is home to one of the UK's eleven National Institute of Health Research Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs). Newcastle's BRC in Ageing & Chronic Disease aims to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the older person.

The Newcastle Academic Health Partners works closely with the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria and the Newcastle Joint Research Office.
